Audition wkshp
An audition workshop aimed towards helping recent graduates and final year WAAPA & UWA students who wish to pursue their studies or careers in Opera.

Registration is open.
Early bird until 27th November 2024. Apply by 5th December 2024
We want to make sure we create a safe space for the singers in this workshop and will read through every registration to make sure all applicants are eligible. Please refer to 'Who can apply?' in the section below.
This workshop runs for 3.5 hours and offers registration for 6 participants and 14 observers.
Participant - $20 early bird, $35 from 28th November 2024
Observer - $10 early bird, $20 from 28th November 2024
If you are eligible, after you have filled out this form, you will be sent an email asking for your CV, audition repertoire and registration payment details. Once we have received these, you will receive your confirmation email.

"As a young singer, venturing out into a professional career brings a lot of auditions for Masters degrees, Competitions, Young Artist Programs and Festival companies. It is a very unnatural performing space that brings nerves and can really knock your self esteem - even if you have worked incredibly hard and are very talented! When you are a student, the main focus is building performance skills and we have some fabulous establishments doing this, however in Perth it is very rare that young singers get the opportunity to audition in unfamiliar places with people they don't know - let alone in a brand new city.
Our goal is to give these young singers tools to prepare for 'audition season' and build their confidence in this particular area of being an artist. A lot of people haven't had these opportunities recently, especially because of travel restrictions. Our aim is to make this workshop accessible to all of our local aspiring artists and be part of that bridge between studying and working as a professional performer."

Zooming into the finer details - like choices in musical ornamentation, printed scores, presentation and conversational interactions as-well as looking at the bigger picture: e.g. what to do in certain scenarios when things go wrong, interacting with the accompanist, knowing the panel and advice for travelling for auditions. "I took part in this audition workshop before travelling overseas to audition for Masters programs and it helped me so much. I had so many questions about what to expect and Dani and Caitlin were professional, approachable and detailed in addressing each one of them. There are certain things that you cannot know unless you've been through an audition process, and it was reassuring to have insight into the do's and don'ts ahead of time. Valuable information such as what to wear, how to manage your time, what to bring, what to expect from a panel, how to conduct yourself professionally and what can sometimes be asked of you in an audition were addressed, and Dani and Caitlin encouraged all questions. Their combined experience and advice was very insightful. Dani and Caitlin are passionate about helping young singers and I am so glad I took the opportunity when it was offered. It helped me feel far more confident in my auditions, and meant that I had less to worry about so I could focus on my performance. Thanks Dani and Caitlin!"

Who can apply?
This is a wkshp for final year classical voice students at WAAPA/UWA and recent graduates. We ask that all applicants speak with their teacher first and make sure they are aware of your application. It is very important to talk to your teacher about what you are applying/auditioning for, especially at this stage in your development. Observer spots open to other singers and pianists.
What will you need?
Please prepare 3 contrasting arias - you may be asked to sing one, two or all three of these.
